East Coast Orthotic & Prosthetic Corp., is excited to, along with Columbia Orthopaedics and Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), partner together with Crutches 4 Kids (C4k), a non-profit organization specializing in the collection and distribution of crutches to children in developing countries.
According to Dr. Kenneth H. Shubin Stein, Founder and Chairman of Crutches 4 Kids (C4K), “C4K’s mission is to give the world’s most physically disadvantaged children the opportunity to walk aided by crutches that we provide. Our goal is to collect, transport and distribute crutches. We will do this by organizing hundreds of teams of students to collect used crutches in their communities, as well as to partner with hospitals and crutch manufacturers for donations. Our efforts are giving the gift of mobility to children who otherwise would be without the ability to walk. This gift will foster greater independence and hope, and enable these children to attend school.”
There are a total of 11 collection sites throughout Manhattan, Tarrytown and Engelwood (NJ). East Coast O & P works with Crutches 4 Kids to help collect and store the donated crutches, which will then be picked up and distributed to children in developing countries who are in need of them.
