One of our fellow co-workers, Kim Smith, Customer Service Representative in Buffalo, is participating in the Light The Night Walk. Light the Night Walk is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual fundraising walk to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling cancer. It’s an excellent cause and it’s also a personal one for Kim. Her father passed away from cancer in 2009 and she and her family is doing it to honor him.
Here is her story from her fundraising page, found here:
“Ron is my Dad, he passed away from cancer in 2009. He raised over $18,000 for Light The Night Walk , and he did it by himself. He walked and raised money in honor of his 3 kids and seven grandchildren because we are healthy and he was grateful for that. He walked in honor of kids who were sick that he never met but touched our lives in some way. Please donate to the Light The Night Walk in honor of your healthy family or for someone touched by cancer whether you know then or not. Help us kick cancer in the ass and make Dad proud! Thank you, Team Ron’s Kids!”
Many of us know of someone who has been affected by cancer. Just last year ECOP lost one of our own, Ron Heard, longtime Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable Clerk who passed away due to cancer. He was a good man and his death definitely affected our office.
Kim’s family is doing something to honor her father, but also raise money for all those affected by cancer, something we think is truly admirable.
